State Street

The goal of this project is to improve and rejuvenate the streetscape planters on State Street with landscape practices that are environmentally sound and resource efficient. The challenges include extremes in light conditions, aggressive roots from established street trees, and pollution. Natives provide unusual shapes, textures, and colors, and once established are durable choices. They connect people to the surrounding natural environment and educate them on sound landscape practices in a time of limited resources. Native plants will add distinction to an already vibrant downtown and enliven the pedestrian and vehicular experience. The planting should help unify not only the planters but the streetscape as a whole. While there are many benefits to planting natives, careful planning must happen in order for plants to be successful and attain optimal health in a heavily used, public environment.

MTBA Transit Center

MBTA Transit Center is located along Adobe Road and directly across the street from the Twentynine Palms Senior Center. The concept of this desert design was to provide an attractive display of desert landscape that would help bring visual interest to a heavily used transportation hub. The use of mesquite and palo verde trees helps provide shade and accent to the desert displays, as do the variety of flowering groundcover and regional plant material. In addition, the utilization of cobble and rock mulch adds a change of textures while still achieving a low-maintenance landscape. This project was processed through the Morongo Basin Transit Authority and the City of Twentynine Palms.

Caltrans 08-0C0404

Along a 115-mile stretch on State Route 15 from Barstow, California, to Stateline (Primm), Nevada, Marina sprayed a two-application hydroseed mix for general contractor Granite Construction. On this Caltrans project, Marina hydroseeded over 365 acres during a six-month timeframe. Granite expedited this project with Caltrans, so consequently, Marina overcame challenges of mobilizing quickly to the site as portions of work became available within small windows of time throughout the course of the job. Partnering both with Granite Construction and Caltrans, Marina was able to meet all deadlines. This was a successful project for the owner, contractor, and subcontractor, as all parties worked together to see the job through.

State Route 90 Yorba Linda

This project was completed for the City of Yorba Linda. Marina's scope of work involved landscape and irrigation for the center medians, and street trees on the north perimeter of Imperial Highway, as well as planting and irrigation of a parkway and street trees along the south side of Imperial Highway. Contract value was $1.2 million, and was completed in 18 months.

Jefferson Street La Quinta

This project was administered by the City of La Quinta to improve the main entry corridor along Jefferson Street. An interesting fact about this work is that one half of the work was performed for the City of Indio and the other half for the City of La Quinta, since both city borders run along this corridor. Included in the scope of work was the installation of palm trees and plants, a drip irrigation system, and the installation of lighting to accent the trees at night. A major challenge Marina faced was performing the work during sandstorms. Marina used a water truck almost constantly to keep blowing sand to a minimum at the project site. Though challenging, Marina completed the project ahead of schedule and within budget.

Passons Boulevard Grade Separation

Located in the City of Pico Rivera, California, the Passons Boulevard Grade Separation project involved the installation of 94,000 square feet of new landscaping and irrigation. One of the challenges of the job was working on the steep slopes while making sure the installation of plants, shrubs, and gravel were laid perfectly to further ensure enhancement of the project’s artistic and visual appeal. The new underpass was designed and completed to provide safety and congestion relief at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing. Working with Brutoco General Engineering, the total length of the project was five months.

Gene Autry Way

Marina installed more than 9,000 shrubs and vines, over 4 miles of irrigation pipe and almost 200 palm trees during this project! Plus, all of the palm trees were required to be of matching heights to have an uniform look. It took many days of careful coordination with the City of Anaheim and our design partners to successfully achieve this highly impactful design on time and within budget! The new road had a gradual incline to it. At its highest point, the road was over 30 feet taller than the lowest point. To trick the eye, Entrant put the tallest palms at the lowest points and gradually worked up to the shortest palms at the top of the hill. When viewing the project from any angle, the palms appear uniform. Once the City saw the finished product they were very pleased.

For this project, Marina performed streetscape work including landscape, irrigation, and 90-day maintenance on Rockfield Blvd and El Toro Rd. Planted vegetation includes 72" and 24" Box trees.
