In 1971, at just 12 years old, Bob Cowan started a landscape endeavor with his older brother Richard – a small maintenance company called “Cowan Landscape Maintenance.” Over time, the two brothers developed their company into a thriving enterprise, transitioning from focusing solely on maintenance accounts to becoming one of California’s largest independent Landscape Construction firms, specializing in everything from Landscape Maintenance to Design-Build, Erosion Control, and Landscape Construction.

Throughout the years, Marina has been recognized by peers and customers as the recipient of several prestigious Associated General Contractor (AGC) Constructor Awards (the “Oscar” of the Construction Industry).

Marina is extremely proud of our diversity of services, from our 25-year maintenance partnership with the Anaheim Resorts District to the award-winning landscape construction of Petco Park in San Diego. We’ve partnered with most Public Entities, Engineering, and Building Contractors in the State.

Embracing our slogan, “Still Growing,” Lisa and Bob Cowan looked to the future of Marina and found the best succession plan. In November 2022, during a celebration of Marina’s 50-year milestone at the Bowers Museum, they surprised the Marina family by announcing that Marina had become Employee-Owned as an ESOP.

Being Employee-Owned allows the hard work that Marina employees have always dedicated to directly benefit them in the form of a retirement plan that grows as they continue their careers at Marina. Clearly, the Marina Landscape family embraces our slogan of “Still Growing” every day.
